The United States and France are two countries close to Molyneux’s heart, and he maintains offices in both of them. He established the New York studio in the early 1980s and the one in Paris in the late 1990s. Paris has always been one of the designer’s favourite cities. After studying architecture at the Universidad Católica of Santiago, Molyneux attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Ecole du Louvre. It was through the work of French architects Louis Le Vau, Ange-Jacques Gabriel, and Claude-Nicolas Ledoux that he first acquired his knowledge of historical styles.

Working on several continents, Juan Pablo Molyneux has created private residences in South America, the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia, and the Middle East. His major institutional projects include the Pavilion of Treaties, in St. Petersburg, the Russian Rooms of the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, both for the Russian Federation, and the salons of the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée in Paris. Molyneux frequently lectures on the craftsmanship and history of architecture and interior design. He sits on the boards of The American Friends of Versailles, The French Heritage Society, and The World Monuments Fund. He has received many awards, among them the Decoration of the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, which he was given in 2004 by the French Minister of Culture in acknowledgement of having helped to spread French culture through his design work and his support of artisans.
A citizen of the world, Molyneux brings a wide-ranging curiosity about all matters aesthetic to each project he takes on. His interiors reflect a strong sense of place. They are the product of a continuing conversation with the client. They are exquisitely crafted. His work embraces and interprets—and reinterprets—the past with a confidence built on nearly four decades of experience.
“I try to distil that which is expected and turn it into something unexpected,” Molyneux says. “I make interiors people want to belong to—forever.”
