Spanish by birth, and Italian by choice, Patricia Urquiola is one of the most coveted interior designers in the world and the keywords for her work are rigour and emotion, innovation and mental comfort. One of her most recent luxury furniture projects is in collaboration with Kettal. The idea behind the Band Armchair for Kettal is the breakdown of structure, an object designed using an ensemble of pieces. The chair’s design intentionally challenges the classic sophisticated lines of furniture design and becomes something schematic, a conceptual program. A structure made up of repetitive angular shapes that give centre stage to its raw materials and can be formed entirely of aluminium or teak wood, and of parallel fabrics. The collection also includes a dining chair.
Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran invested in their individual experience with the profession and study of Design, Art and Fashion, and founded DIMORESTUDIO in 2003. Since that moment, they have designed and carried out every project in a personal and recognizable way. At Milan Design Week 2019, Dimore Studio established an amazing collaboration with Dior. This was an exclusive collection between these two companies, where they created objects that resembled the surrealism and cubism art. Their focus sat on the concept of different metals such as gold, silver, and bronze, creating incredible luxury Italian furniture pieces.
With work in every significant museum’s contemporary design collection, Antonio Citterio is a knowledge broker for innovation in design and architecture. His humble demeanour and environmental sensitivity put form at the service of function, elevating both. Salone del Mobile 2019 saw the launch of a series of new elements in B&B Italia Maxalto’s collection that direct the brand’s rich history towards the future. Apollo is a new range of upholstered furniture, composed of three sofa types that balance linear and curved shapes in a fluid composition.
In 1986, the Italian architect, art director and designer Piero Lissoni, together with Nicoletta Canesi, founded the interdisciplinary studio Lissoni Associati in Milan, focusing on architecture as well as interior and product/light design. Lissoni and his multinational team thus comprehensively cover these areas, completing them with graphics, art direction and corporate identity. For Salone del Mobile 2019, Knoll celebrated an important anniversary – the Bauhaus centenary – and presented the new collections alongside the iconic products of the brand. The new collections presented by Knoll designed by Piero Lissoni are perfectly coordinated with the recent items designed for the catalogue by the architect, resulting in a set of luxury Italian furniture.
Officially launched in 2012, Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors offers a wide range of luxury furniture and interior design accessories, developed in collaboration with the sector’s top specialists. From furniture to linen or tableware, Roberto Cavalli’s home collection is for the people who aren’t afraid to be bold, exuding luxury and elegance. During Salone del Mobile 2019, Roberto Cavalli was one of the must-visit stands of the fair and was even the winner of the Most Coveted Armchair Award!
The aesthetic of Armani/Casa, by Giorgio Armani, was born from a subtle exchange between sensibility and taste, it expresses an unexpected harmony between different cultures; a collection that transforms parallels and similarities. The distinctive style incorporates a harmonious combination of different inspirations and design codes to form a sophisticated atmosphere.
Antonio Lupi is one of the most popular bathroom design brands in the world thanks to its creative bathroom furniture and vanities created in Italy. Highest standard quality, customer care and a wide range of collections with a deep passion for work are the key factors which inspire Lupi’s family. They were dressed to impress in the amazing Salone Del Mobile 2019 with some brand new luxury Italian furniture pieces in their creative stand.
Karim Rashid’s design impresses because of the quantity (over 3000 pieces produced, 300 prizes and presence in 40 countries), diversity (furniture design, spaces, product, new technology, lighting, packaging, fashion, identity, surfaces and not only) and modernity and it’s this versatility that led him to focus in Italy, as well as France in Canada. Rashied studied in Italy and that’s why his style is influenced by the Italian style of design. Even though we can trace his origins to French design, it was in Italy that Rashid learns all of the skills and absorbed all the influences that allow him to become that top interior and product designer that he is today. Recently, the designer unveiled the Pathos Table, an exquisite representation of luxury Italian furniture.
Ludovica and Roberto Palomba are top names of today’s Italian design. They are the two founders of the Palomba Serafini Associati, a powerful design studio based in Milan, Italy, that was created in 1994. For the past years, they have been collaborating with the most prestigious design brands from all over the world, namely Poltrona Frau, and the majority of their products designed since 1994 is still in production, making them some of the most long-standing design studios in production in Italy!
One of the design legends that recently left us is Alessandro Mendini. This top product designer was one of the fathers of modern Italian design and, during his long and prestigious career, he helped shape the incredible Italian furniture industry and its amazing craftsmanship. Famed for designs that include the Proust Armchair, an iconic piece of luxury Italian furniture, Mendini was one of those legends who were at the front row of the radical design of the Italian Modernity movement that started in the 1960s. He produced some of the most stunning projects, but at the backstage, he also helped Italy’s editorial and media business to grow to incredible new heights with his incredible inside knowledge of design.
