Henkin Shavit Studio Presents “A Modern Farm House” ProjectThursday 8 November 2018
Henkin Shavit Studio Presents “A Modern Farm House” Project ⇒ Irit Henkin and Zohar Shavit are the ones behind Henkin Shavit Studio, who have just released a new residential project. “A Modern Farm House“, located in Israel, is their newest work. The house remains true to their signature minimalist design style. Today, CovetED brings you an exclusive look at their new project.
The concept of “ploughing” was a preliminary boost to the conceptual design phase of the project. The “ploughing”, which is an arranged intervention in a land compound, divides it into strips or sowing areas. Those areas which are sub-spaces of the plot appear in the villa in the configuration of different spaces, with the rhythms of “ploughing” producing the transitions between the public and the private. The spaces create an organized longitudinal system and a random widthwise system, of the person and his movement at home.
The home design combined a program with existing sloped land topography, on a long and narrow lot in the size of 0.5 acres. The house is a complex which connects two single-story separated “houses” that serve the parent unit program, children’s unit, parking + guest bathroom + kitchen.
The connection between the houses was done by a shed – a light structure that combines glass, wood and steel and serves the program of dining and accommodation. The outdoor area incorporates the relationship between front garden to the adjacent ramp to the parking and the guest access road (by foot) and between the back garden which includes a swimming pool, hospitality areas and different points of view to the rear plantation plot.
Irit Henkin & Zohar Shavit graduated with honours in 2004 from HIT (Holon Institute of Technology). After graduation, they opened an independent studio for the design of residential apartments for the comprehensive renovation and planning of private homes with unique historical value. Many of their projects were exhibited and published in Israeli magazines and abroad. The studio operates in Jaffa at an inspiring loft that was totally renovated and is overlooking the mediterranean sea and the amazing urban landscape of Jaffa-Tel Aviv.
