An Amazingly Fresh Brooklyn Apartment by Amber Rogers DesignFriday 9 March 2018
An Amazingly Fresh Brooklyn Apartment by Amber Rogers Design – Amber Rogers Design has 15 years of professional experience working in the interior design and design-build industry. Amber studied at Pratt Institute where she received her bachelor of Arts in Interior design. At JJ Falk design, she gained vast commercial design experience with projects like MTV, Comedy Central and CBS. She then began working at Das Concepts where she works on the high-end hospitality project, Setai Hotel and Residences. Amber then worked for Hecho design and construction where she remained for 6 years. At Hecho, she worked on projects such as The Act Nightclub, Speedy Romeo, Glaze, Dos Toros and Le Defense as well as many private residences.
When Shashi Kumara and Arun Jayaram started working with Amber Rogers of Amber Rogers Design on their new three bedroom apartment in Boerum Hill Brooklyn, a love for local artisans guided the process. Amber showed them a side of Brooklyn design that she loved, The Brooklyn Makers. The design of the apartment was thoughtfully curated with local artisans to showcase original handmade design with both traditional and modern influences, as well as to reflect the clients’ Indian heritage.
Shashi and Arun developed great respect for the handmade philosophy of object creation when visiting Brooklyn studios that Amber Rogers selected. In the living room, they selected a marble cork and walnut coffee table by Volk Furniture, complementing the modern campaign lounge chair by Richard Wightman. An “erased pattern” rug in the living room added a modern twist to a traditional pattern, while an oversized lamp by Roll and Hill added a playful element.
The Apparatus “highwire” fixture above the custom Robert Sukrachand’s dining table complemented the geometric form, while the soft lines of the Gumi dining chairs brought everything together. Leather sling brass and walnut barstools by Asher Israelow were placed at the kitchen bar next to the allied maker globes with similar materials. Hand printed wallpaper by Calico set the celestial tone in the master bedroom with Worksted sconces. Flavour Paper’s mural set the tropical theme of their daughter’s vintage Hawaiian bedroom. Even many of the accessories were from local ceramicists and designers.
Once completed, the clients agreed that their new family home was the perfect environment for their life, their culture, and their aesthetic.
