Hotels We Covet: Velaa Private Island Resort in MaléFriday 9 June 2017
Kettal Group, founded in 1964, is one of the world’s leading outdoor furniture companies which has clients in more than 60 countries and its designs stand out for the great durability, elegance and unparalleled comfort. That was the main reason why Kettal was chosen to be the responsible for the design and furnishings of the Velaa Private Island Resort located in northern Malé within the island chain that forms the Noonu Atoll, belonging to the Maldives Islands.
The Velaa Private Island Resort is a unique combination of indoor and outdoor spaces providing the possibility of choosing where to stay: in a ground-floor apartment or in a romantic water villa, each space offers a private pool, where you can enjoy the privacy, comfort and luxury of this exotic place.
In order to embellish this spectacular Resort, Kettal Studio has selected the outstanding Maia and Vieques collections, designed by Patricia Urquiola, and the Landscape collection, designed by Kettal ‘s design team. As a result, Kettal designed an impressive place surrounded by a unique natural paradise where visitors feel completely welcomed and happy.
The Maia collection is made of aluminium tubes with a sophisticated design of handcrafted braiding, which gives a touch of lightness and natural elegance to its pieces. About the remarkable collection, Patricia Urquiola said: “The piece I identify with most is the Relax armchair. I like finding the most suitable material for each project. Working on technologically developed materials using craft techniques, or using an industrial process on a material from the past.”
Vieques is an incredible collection of outdoor rugs designed by Patricia Urquiola for Kettal and it is characterised by the combination of an aluminium structure and a revolutionary new three-dimensional fabric called “Nido d’Ape”. The rug’s 3D surface can be easily cleaned of any accumulated dirt and, the organic palette of brown, grey, beige or red are produced by weaving diversely hued fibres to create its variegated colouring.
