It represents an experience that you have never lived before. Something completely out of the ordinary that features the most exclusiveness, the most luxurious and the most privacy that you could possibly wish for. You can find it in the sunny and beautiful Portugal. And it is definitely one of the most well-kept secrets from Portugal. Curious? Hop on and have a nice trip!
Let’s meet then The Presidential Train. First of all, it is very important to say that, basically, we are talking about the 2017 Gold Winner as The Best Public Event in the World 2017. It must mean something, right? But if you are still not convinced, keep reading to get to know all the included amenities, the pictures of what you can expect and, of course, how you can book an experience like this one.
The Presidential is the best luxury experience of the country and there are no two editions alike. It has the mission to bring the world’s leading culinary talents to the most beautiful corners of the country, aboard the most exquisite train in Portugal’s history.
To understand better why this train is so special, let’s see what does the History has to say about it. The crown jewel of Portugal’s railway, the Presidential Train has hosted Kings, Presidents, Heads of State and Popes for over a century. Built in 1890, it served the court of King D. Luis I as the Portuguese Royal Train, transporting dignitaries like Queen Elizabeth II and Pope Paul VI. Renamed The Presidential Train at the turn of the century, it proudly transported Portugal’s Heads of State until 1970, when it was officially retired.
In 2010 the emblematic train was magnificently restored to its luxurious standard, maintaining the original furnishing and style that made it iconic and has since been showcased in the National Railway Museum as the most important piece of our railway history.
The President Train features a combination of 3 perfect ingredients. A perfect combination curated by Gonçalo Castel-Branco.
In the first place, it is a very special train. Why? Because it brings to the present the luxury of other times. The Presidential Train is a true time capsule that takes you to travel through history. When you hear its distinct sound approaching, behold its glorious exterior, and step aboard its lavishly furnished carriages, you feel like royalty.
Secondly, it hosts the best chefs in the world with magical flavours. Nowadays, the concept of food has changed a lot and it became an expression of art, as well as Chefs that became the 21st-century artists. Through their creations, they have the power to manipulate our senses and emotions, inflicting feelings of extreme delight, jolting our memories and giving us unforgettable experiences.
At last but not at least, it takes to amazing places that win a new sparkling light when visited by train. Once a game-changing mode of transportation, trains give us fresh perspectives, exposing a place completely unbeknownst to us. Trains are the key to discovering Portugal in a fully unique way, and the country’s depths are filled with endless little treasures, waiting to be found.
For the curator, it was life at first sight. An entrepreneur with an absolute drive for maverick ideas and exquisite projects, Gonçalo Castel-Branco found the Presidential Train at the National Railway Museum and made it the best luxury experience in the country was born of that premise of finding talent, nooks and deserving products of a voyage so extraordinary and magical.
The everlasting search for the perfect combination of three special ingredients drives The Presidential’s team to perfect, at each edition, this fantastic journey.
If you are also curious about The National Railway Museum and want to visit it as well, it is located in Entroncamento and showcases the magnificent Presidential Train and you can always visit even after saying goodbye to The Presidential Experience, or discover some of the other treasures of the Portuguese Railway’s 160 years of history.
