Lladró, the world leader in the design, announced in ICFF 2019 in New York the launch of Nightbloom, in collaboration with the Dutch design studio Marcel Wanders. The Ice Cream collection , one of the lamps presented at the fair, is an innovative addition to the established Light & Scent line. Wild Portraits and Bold Blue are exciting sculptural innovations, also part of Lladró’s and Marcel Wandes’s latest modern designs at ICFF 2019. CovetED will tell you everything you need to know about this amazing partnership.
The collection of white porcelain chandeliers is inspired by the way the petals of a flower delicately dance in the wind and breeze. Sculpted by hand with a sense of natural randomness, each 3D-relief part of the bouquet lamp is a unique and unrepeatable handcrafted creation.
“We were drawn to Lladró’s creative principle that marries detailed design with an overarching love and cares for the medium and desire to make something exquisite for the home. We share their interest in using unique craft processes to bring past traditions into the contemporary moment. This is a collaboration of pure inspiration, technique and passion,” states Marcel Wanders.
The Nightbloom collection includes a ceiling pendant lamp, a floor lamp, a desk lamp and a wall lamp, each offering a three-dimensional relief pattern. Suspended from above, the lamp projects a soft golden glow that recalls the ancient Kintsugi Japanese technique. Creating a repetitive pattern, each petal is purposefully positioned to take advantage of LED technology that emits light from within. Together, the petal placement allows the hidden, centre light to accentuate the details on the surface and enhance any room with the perfect balance between light and shade.
“The true loveliness of these pieces comes from the light that finds its way through the 3D-relief petals to create a colour gradient from the inside to outside,” adds Gabriele Chiave, Creative Director at Marcel Wanders.
Lladró continues to innovate and create a lifestyle around porcelain with this new addition to its extensive lighting catalogue.
These white matt porcelain lamps are the newest addition to Lladró’s groundbreaking Light & Scent line which combines exquisite Valencian porcelain with the latest innovations in lighting design. Inspired by chōchin, traditional Japanese paper lanterns, and the iconic swirl of soft serve ice cream, reminiscent of sweet summer memories, the Ice Cream lamp is adaptable as either a table or a hanging lamp and comes with a royal blue or nude handle and base.
The delicate texture and unique characteristics of white matt porcelain make these lamps highly versatile and perfect for any interior style. Its translucent porcelain surface is inviting to the touch, while its melting lines are accentuated by emitting a soft glow. Using state-of-the-art cordless technology the lamp is fitted with an independent LED module and rechargeable batteries making it fully transportable and adaptable to any space.
At ICFF Lladró will reveal its ever-evolving Lighting design with new introductions to its established Firefly collection. Composed of colourful fragments and crowned by a translucent porcelain lampshade, which filters light producing an ethereal glow evoking the magic light of the firefly, the aesthetic power of the Firefly cordless lamp is enhanced through the two new versions launched this season. First, the 80 cm table lamp combines design, functionality and technology with its cordless rechargeable USB system. Second, the striking 1.75 m floor lamp is vibrantly eye-catching with its artisanal decorative structure, with patterns inspired by the sunflower and lotus flower, filling any room with a colourful palette of glazed tones.
At ICFF Lladró will unveil its latest innovations in sculptural decorative objects with Wild Portraits, the brand’s first collection of animal masks. This innovative collection unites conceptual representation with a vivid depiction of the natural world in three striking designs, the Mandrill, the Owl and the Tiger. Adaptable as either a wall-hanging or unique table decoration, these daring designs by José Luis Santés are boldly decorated in a black and white striped shiny porcelain glaze enhanced with sparkling golden lustre.
At ICFF Lladró will introduce the innovative modernization of its iconic figurines with its latest Bold Blue Collection, a striking re-interpretation of interior decorative pieces. This vibrant collection reinterprets three classic Lladró sculptures -Courting Cranes, Macaw and Leading the Way -by completely submerging them in the famous, electric Yves Klein blue porcelain. Using a matte glaze accentuated with sparkling golden lustre these three iconic animal sculptures have a striking impact -perfect for making a bold modern statement in unique interior design.
As with all the brand’s creations, each one of the pieces on show at ICFF has been handcrafted in Valencia (Spain), in the brand’s only factory in the world. Since 1953 this entirely handmade process is carried out in this factory by a team of expert artisans and craftsman, who then export to over 120 countries and 5 continents across the globe.

Regarded by many as an anomaly in the design world, Marcel Wanders has made it his mission to “create an environment of love, live with passion and make our most exciting dreams come true.” This work excites, provokes, and polarizes, but never fails to surprise for its ingenuity, daring and singular quest to uplift the human spirit, and entertain. Marcel Wanders’ chief concern is bringing the human touch back to design, ushering in what he calls design’s ‘new age;’ in which designer, craftsperson and user are reunited. In his process, Marcel Wanders defies design dogma, preferring instead to focus on holistic solutions rather than the technocratic. In this universe, the coldness of industrialism is replaced instead by the poetry, fantasy and romance of different ages, vividly brought to life in the contemporary moment.
