Founded by the Baur-Kracht family, Baur au Lac has been opened since 1884 and has been under the direction of six generations. The five-star luxury hotel is located in the heart of Zurich. Over the last two decades, the hotel has undergone a series of neoclassical styled renovations in regards to new facilities as well as incorporating the latest advancements in technology to guarantee a personal and passionate service to its guests, for which the hotel is so celebrated, “Baur au Lac is well placed to maintain its privileged place and to face the times to come at the forefront of international hospitality.”
Measuring 17,000 square metres, the Hotel is extended to the banks of Lake Zurich and is positioned in an extremely commercial area, having the luxury shopping streets, Bahnhofstrasse, just a stone’s throw away. Guests can also benefit from attractions like the Opera house, art galleries, the Tonhalle concert hall, and many others. Switzerland is renowned for its jewellery and watches produce, so there are many stores within the area for one to explore.

In 2009, the hotel renewed many of the spaces, including the Salons, Terrace and the Pavillon gourmet restaurant which were under the careful supervision of iconic French interior designer, Pierre-Yves Rochon. The designer conceived timeless and contemporary aesthetics while maintaining the traditions of the hotel very much alive. Frédéric d’Haufayt was responsible for the new designs of the Petit Palais Ballroom and sleeping accommodations with exclusive pieces, providing a warm and intimate ambience.
The Hotel consists of 119 rooms and suites equipped with superb Art Deco artefacts, French period furniture designs as well as modern design elements made from high-quality materials.
Baur au Lac has two major fine dining services, the Rive Gauche Restaurant and Bar and the Pavillon. The former is regarded as one of the trendiest restaurants in Zurich and displays majestic interiors with dark wooden tables and leather sofas in mint tones. Following a “Terre et Mer” theme, head chef Oliver Rais along with a team of experienced cooks, prepare original dishes with spices from all around the globe that are accompanied by fine wines and Martini cocktails.
The latter offers an iconic culinary experience and enthralling interiors with designs like Lalique chandeliers that highlight the brilliance and glamour of the 20s as well as Art Deco upholstered furnishings. The restaurant is headed by chef Laurent Eperon who specialises in giving classic haute cuisine, a contemporary interpretation. The Hotel has been presented with one Michelin star.
The well-regarded hospitality venue has lodged for many occasions several household names in the entertainment industry, such as the late Alfred Hitchcock, Audrey Hepburn, Jayne Mansfield, and contemporary Hollywood stars like Renée Zellweger, Richard Gere and Daniel Craig.
