Dutch designer Theo Ruth (Netherlands 1915-1971) made an icon of the fifties when he designed the “Congo Chair” for Artifort in 1952. The chair is the designers’ interpretation of traditional African seating. The chair comprises two separate elements that cleverly fit together. Gravity does the rest.
The upholstery is “l’Afrique” by Studio Job. l’Afrique emerged from the collaboration between Studio Job and Land Rover (2012-13). The designers were asked to design and produce a unique, sculptural Land Rover Defender on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the iconic vehicle. The Defender is strongly rooted in Africa. The designers, therefore, asked manufacturer Vlisco – a specialist for more than 100 years in the production and distribution of speciality fabrics for the African continent – to print a single batch designed by Studio Job for the interior upholstery of the Land Rover.
A collection of small furniture where cane is interpreted in an innovative way. A special iridescent lacquering adds unique versatility and contemporaneity to each piece. Piani comprises a side table, a console and a bookshelf.
HERMÈS SHOWS ITS COLOURS
The 2018 chromatic palette punctuates interior decor, backs up powerful drawings, and resonates in materials. Glossy and bright on lacquer, porcelain and textiles, color is more matt and denser on leather and wood. Rigorous creativity and joyful meticulousness. Audrey is a contemporary low pile rug that features a mesmerizing pattern of colored triangles. It uses a synthetic fibre called Tencel and it is produced using a cut and loop technique. The bright vivid colors mix with the abstract geometric pattern produce an amazingly rich indoor rug.
The timeless modern dining chair, Garbo was inspired by one of the biggest and most mysterious names on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame. With a unique design, heavily influenced by the classic lines of mid-century modern design, Garbo dining chair features a velvet upholstered seat with a removable cushion, completed by a crescent low back that is handmade in brass, finished in plated copper. The support of the upholstered dining chair is composed of four solid walnut wood legs that sit atop copper plated feet, for a more elegant look. Garbo is the perfect dining chair for a mid-century dining set, and it can also be used in hospitality interiors, due to the fire retardant properties of the fabrics used by Essential Home’s craftsmen.
