New Brand Formae Is Here To Shake Up Italian Craftsmanship

New Brand Formae Is Here To Shake Up Italian Craftsmanship ⇒ Formae is the new Italian brand that focuses on metalworking. The brand’s iconic location is its officina, where the metalworking skill of Gennaro Tramonti – founder of the company Car-Met – combines with the desire of his sons, Simone and Laura, to create unique objects made of metal, the family’s true calling. Estensioni is the brand’s first collection, which officially marks its passage from Car-Met to Formae. It is composed of visually light objects, where geometric linearity and graphical accents are accentuated only by the artisan processes.

In the heart of the Tuscan valleys, the Formae brand has taken shape from the enthusiasm of the new generation of a family company, from childhood memories of the smell of metal grinding, and the awareness of the infinite possibilities and applications of this material, in order to offer sleek, playful home furnishing accessories. The brand’s iconic location is its officina, where the metalworking skill of Gennaro Tramonti – founder of the company Car-Met – combines with the desire of his sons, Simone and Laura, to create unique objects made of metal, the family’s true calling.

Formae’s range of furniture and accessories are designed to be functional domestic presences, with wonderfully sleek aesthetics which are unashamedly a little poppy. The design cues reference Scandi style and lessons from Memphis, interpreted through a simple, contemporary design language. The artistic director is Leonardo Fortino, a young designer who nevertheless boasts extensive experience in the metal production sector; his formal research process centres on geometry, revisited through a process of summary and simplification.

Through the use of laser cutting, welding, mechanical connection, manual bending and punching, they created the Estensioni collection. The products Engioi, Ambrogio and Half Moon can be considered illustrative of Formae’s entire production due to their style and manufacturing characteristics.

AMBROGIO – small table. Designed by Paula Studio, Ambrogio is a coffee table/console made up of two structural steel elements and a solid ashtray. A slim, square tubular structure, welded and expertly finished, creates a markedly linear structure, able to generate a geometric design which varies depending on its positions and use.

ENGIOI – trolley-bar. Engioi is a trolley-bar by designers Lucio Curcio and Luca Binaglia, based on a rigorous mirroring of the geometries which make up its volumes. The design is only apparently simple, actually using a large proportion of the company’s processes – cutting, bending of tubes and profiles, welding, final assembly – and demonstrates how essential style can have an intrinsic decorative capacity.

HALF MOON – Shelf. Half moon, projected by Anna Mercurio, is the sleek, slimline shelf which investigates the topic of the circle in combination with the lessons from Bauhaus maestro Joseph Albers on the study of planes. That’s why the shelf is conceived as an optical illusion: when viewed front-on, the eye perceives only the circular volume, while the depth of the shelf is revealed only when viewed from the side.
