A deep, captivating, intense blue: this is what first captures the eye when looking at the brand-new Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon Enamel. While the Master Ultra Thin line is not new for this brand and neither is the use of enamel, the combination of these elements now gifts us a gorgeous new timepiece from the historical brand that is often called “the watchmaker’s watchmaker.”
Let’s start with the case, which is indeed “ultra-thin,” coming in at 39 mm in diameter and 10.04 mm in height. The Master Ultra Thin case is not only eminently wearable thanks to its easy proportions, but it is also modest due to its classic round shape and pure lines. This leaves the dial to become the star of the show. First, the dial is hand-engraved using a process called guilloche to make a flattering sunburst pattern that emanates from the centre. Then it is covered with a deep blue enamel (a combination of crafts known as flinqué, incidentally). Both of these crafts are applied right in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s own factory in Le Sentier, Switzerland.
Within the confines of this dial, the subdial positioned at 6 o’clock containing the date and moon phase takes centre stage: from the enamelled guilloche section to the engraved frame containing the date numerals and the moon nestled within its beautiful starry sky, this is a watch that satisfies the most demanding customers and design lovers with its purity, painstaking traditional crafts, and perfect proportions.
In addition, it is powered by automatic Caliber 925/2, entirely made by Jaeger-LeCoultre and visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back. Available in a limited edition of just 100 pieces, this 18-karat white gold timepiece will retail for $35,800.
