Explore Macrocosmos, the collection of Alessandro Zambelli EdizioniTuesday 12 December 2017
Explore Macrocosmos, the collection of Alessandro Zambelli Edizioni – Fantasy creatures, born of wizardry. There is a dreamlike quality to the synthesis of suggestions from which they come, which penetrates the animal, vegetable and human world with an ironic look. These creatures internalise the geometric perfection of a magnifying glass over the animal micro-universe, mixed with the vivid, energising tones of plant life. There is also a hint of humanity about their fluid lines. They are a genuine and overt tribute to the world of science fiction and to the eternal human fascination with unknown universes and extra-terrestrial realities, remote from our everyday perception. Populating these parallel and surreal worlds are the bizarre creatures dreamed up by Alessandro Zambelli for Macrocosmos.
Macrocosmos by Alessandro Zambelli Edizioni is the first line of furniture accessories devised, designed and 100-percent designer-made. Printed in 3D by fusion deposition modelling and embellished with coloured ERGAL and brass, the collection marks the official launch of Alessandro Zambelli Edizioni. The new brand, the brainchild of the designer himself, focuses on experimentation in design and on the creation of limited-edition objects and accessories.
“Macrocosmos derives from my very personal desire to lend a new and contemporary interpretation to a specific manufacturing sector”, explains Alessandro Zambelli. “Until a few decades ago, this was a staple industry in the village where I live, known to this day as ‘the village of toys’ because of its vast numbers of doll and toy factories. My intention was to revive the near-surreal amazement I used to feel as a child whenever I saw those stacks of wooden crates, crammed with toy parts for assembly. But I’ve sought to revisit that «wow» feeling with the insight of the person I now am. That is how this first collection of objects came into being: an assembly of shapes, colours and different materials”.

There are eight different components in the Macrocosmos series already available for purchase. These combine shapes and colours as well as different sizes. Macrocosmos is a collection of vases and receptacles, conceived as little presences within the household. Iconic, yet emotional, they betray an unmistakable degree of abstraction, instantly recognisable from their brightly mixed media, lively and capricious colouring and firm lines. Precious detail adds sparkle and the result is pop art: an ironic and playful Macrocosm, at home in distant galaxies.
Alessandro Zambelli Edizioni is the new brand conceived by designer Alessandro Zambelli. The project is wholly dedicated to design experimentation and to producing limited editions of accessories, born of the utmost freedom of expression. The brand offers collections unshackled by any form of commissioning or by market and manufacturing dictates. These objects are the fruit of a totally free approach which leaves room for experimentation with the project’s underlying idea, materials and production techniques. This freedom is infectious and enriches the designer’s project output with fresh visions and insights, every time. Expressed in a new and unexpected language, Alessandro Zambelli’s design approach culminates in an output capable of embodying a highly poetic oeuvre. It stirs the recollection of dormant layers of memory, giving rise to accessories tinged, always, with a subtle irony. These accessories engage the acquirer in dialogue, by evoking familiar sensations while opening narratives which vary from time to time, in surprising and unexpected ways.
