For more than 25 years, Sara Folch’s interior design studio has designed hundreds of projects, being recognized not only by the present but the previous works for their clients. Each work is completely unique to the customer, each project is seen as a new opportunity to innovate, to try something new in response to their needs. CovetED had the opportunity to speak with Sara Folch at Casa Decor Madrid 2020, where she told us about a bit of everything – her biggest influences, her project for the event, sustainability in interior design, among other things. Hope you enjoy!
Sara Folch has been featured at Casa Decor Madrid for 15 editions now. Since back in the day, a lot has changed – with the years came remarkable experiences and now Sara Folch sees in Casa Decor part of her family. “My daughter was 6 weeks old in the first edition of Casa Decor I ever participated. She was always with me, through the whole process of space planning and execution”, Sara Folch tells us.
“Everyone working with me was having fun with her, even when she was crying”, she recalls with a smile.
For the latest edition of Casa Decor Madrid, Sara Folch presented us with a new space she called “La Corte de Los Milagros”, or The Miracle Field if you translate it. Almost like the beauty salon of the future, it is located in a brand new area of the house, “a project that, thanks to the JUNG technology, transforms itself according to the users’ preferences“. This new concept “works as a dressing room complement, a totally automated system you can control with your voice”.
The main goal for Sara was to create “a harmonious, comfortable space where technology and craftsmanship meet each other, making way for a sensory experience through beauty sessions”.
Sustainability was the main theme of Casa Decor Madrid 2020. Sara Folch is a great advocate of sustainable design, stating that her projects, “besides being technological, are also linked with the whole renewable technologies’ concept”. “Big tanks to water the gardens and recycled materials to produce furniture and lighting designs“ are also part of Sara Folch’s modus operandi.
When asked about her secret for a successful career, Sara Folch does not hesitate –
“working every day with passion, learning from it and surpassing your own limits”.
Sara believes every client is unique, so a distinctive project is what she is going for every single time. “I find inspiration within classic architecture icons such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, the German art school Bauhaus, among others, and, of course, my daily routine and quotidian experiences”. “Jean Nouvel and Bjarke Ingels in architecture, visual artist Lita Cabellut, fashion designer Pierpaolo Piccioli and multidisciplinary designer Neri Oxman are also very important for me”, Sara Folch concludes.
