A believer in the tenets of integrative medicine which addresses the entire body and psycho as a whole, Clodagh embraces both ancient and cutting edge methods in an effort to comfort not only the body but also the mind. She was among the earliest adopters of feng shui in her design practice. Clodagh is once again ahead of the curve by now incorporating such cutting edge modalities as chromatherapy and biophilia into all of her projects.

The White Horses Spa at Doonbeg was designed to capture the warmth and invitation of an old Irish house. The design team worked closely with the project architect to create a space that is textural and inviting, filled with all the elements, to soothe the senses. One of the design challenges was to make the cellar-level public spaces feel luxurious and illuminated, while creating a quiet refuge in the treatment rooms.

These cocoon-like spaces envelop guests with vaulted ceilings that capture the nostalgia of a Georgian country home. Throughout the spa, warm glows of light are cast on plastered walls and slabs of honed limestone line the corridors and wet treatment rooms. Clodagh Design was hired by the Related Companies and Equinox Fitness Club to create the High Line’s first luxury gym. Because of the lack of natural light, Clodagh Design created a “green” and vibrant space that spans over the area and three storeys, encapsulated across the men’s and women’s changing rooms, spa treatment rooms and fitness studios. SIX SENSES DOURO VALLEY

Six Senses Douro Valley Resort and Spa in Portugal address all the senses and incorporates all the elements. With jaw-dropping views of the Douro River, the driveway winds down through working vineyards to cypress-flanked entry. Using authentic and honest materials and the work of local artisans and craftsmen, the property provides a luxury retreat with serene and quiet rooms that feature spacious dive gray Portuguese limestone bathrooms and beds, which are handmade using organic lamb’s wool from local sheep.

As the resort’s heart, Clodagh created a wine library which works not unlike a village town square. Two monumental ceiling fixtures made of local wine bottles are a playful reference to the area’s famous wine region and adorn a space used for tastings and tapas.

Using tones which are gentle, warm and nostalgic, and using items such as recycled wine crates as wall covers, distressed leather sofas, and beautifully aged books, guests enjoy an authentic and enriching tactile experience. Spa rooms look out over lush secret gardens, water sculptures, and expansive views of the Valley. An organic garden and outdoor Chef’s table provide joyful interaction with the natural environment and local food resources. Designed with wellness, sustainability, and authenticity at the forefront, the resort provides a platform to further steward a brand that Clodagh feels such as kinship and synchronicity with.
