Graça Viterbo is an inspiring example of a woman who made a unique career in design during a period in Portugal in which this wasn’t a profession with big guarantees of success. However, from 1971 to today, there’s no doubt that Viterbo Interior Design is one of a kind when it comes to defining unique Portuguese examples. The designer’s work has spread worldwide, and today, CovetED will be showing you a lovely example in Rio de Janeiro.

The home is located in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, and without a doubt, the interiors are a good example of the eclectic style that defines most of Graça Viterbo‘s projects. At first glance we may look upon a clean type of decor, with a very neutral colour palette, however, a little walk through the home will allow the viewer to discover unique details in every room.
For this project, there’s no doubt that Viterbo Interior Design made full use of natural materials, especially in regards to wood and other types of fabrics found in the furnishings and other elements, such as decor elements pretty allusive to the sea. In a couple of corners, we can find some colourful elements, like, for example, the small yellow table in the bedroom, or even the red paintings placed in a couple of halls of the home.
Without a doubt, there are many elements that Graça Viterbo chose in order to balance the pattern of the home, while at the same time providing a cosy ambience for the owner. It’s a simple yet captivating effect that defines the full potential of Viterbo Interior Design.
Graça Viterbo’s is a designer who started investing in her career during the 40s after finishing the Decorative Arts Course at Fundação Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva (1964-1966) and in the Interior Design at the Inchbald School of Design. Today the mantle of Viterbo Interior Design is still being carried out by her daughter Gracinha Viterbo, who followed in her mother’s footsteps.
