Zaha Hadid Design is another presence that had to make it to Maison et Objet 2020 like every year. The brand has debuted the new Plex vessel and extensions to the Cell, Pulse, Duo and Serenity collections. Once again goes to show that the brand has been managing to maintain its unique quality in regards to innovations in glasswork. CovetED is going to let you in on the essentials before you see the full collection for yourself at the event.
The new Plex vessel made in a crystal is comprised of two elements. It can be stacked vertically to conceal its contents or separated into parts that nest together. The point of this piece for Zaha Hadid was to be presented as a multi-use object for the user.
Within the Plex vessel, we can find the limited edition piece Serenity centrepiece. This lovely element in transparent polished acrylic draws inspiration from Hadid’s innovative formal language of fluidity. One definitely notices the pristine surface interrupted by ripples that refract and reflect light.
Next is the addition to the Pulse glass collection: the new Pulse platter. It comes off as an exaggerated articulation of its pleated glass, which brilliantly highlights the asymmetry of its design. However, this distinctive feature is part of a feature found in the design language of the Pulse family of objects.
A feature to be noted is the fact that the collection as a whole has been extended with new colours for 2020. This includes the Serenity platter now available in rose gold, the Cell candleholder in silver and the Duo salt & pepper grinders in olive green. The collection that you can now see at Maison et Objet is a brilliant testimony of how the firm Zaha Hadid’s inventive methodology and process. The products are indeed the result of 40 years of research expressed in Hadid’s top-notch designs for lighting, furniture and finishes.
