 De Kas, Amsterdam

Although there aren’t any tables facing a canal, the garden view is more than enough at De Kas Restaurant, a rising star in Amsterdam’s restaurant scene.  the original structure, dating back to 1926, when it was a nursery for the city’s flora, was indeed scheduled to be demolished, until the Michelin-starred chef, Gert Jan Hageman re-birthed the place. The restaurant not only grows its own vegetables, but they’re also part of the view.

Not long ago, the Shard’s sky-high restaurants were the proud hosts to London’s most dramatic dinner with a view through its 31st and 32nd floor-to-ceiling windows, but Sky Garden raised the stakes. Atop the wonky-shaped building, known as the “Walkie-Talkie,” Sky Garden serves up its array of eateries (from cocktail bars to proper restaurants) within a three-story glass dome over 500 feet in the sky.

Ocho, San Antonio, Texas

Sidled up to Hotel Havana along San Antonio’s lush River Walk, the Mediterranean Revival–style building was constructed in 1914 by a self-made grocer, who might be delighted in just how much spotlight food gets in this recovered and sun-lit restaurant. The vibrant interior design pops with steel beams painted in turquoise, while the chic chandeliers are hardly necessary for the daytime as light floods this Latin restaurant with Texan charm.

 Eberly, Austin, Texas

A combined of four distinct areas—from a rooftop terrace to a historic 150-year-old bar which was replanted from Greenwich Village—now connect to create Eberly. The study is the coziest of its rooms and stands right in the center, designed inspired in 19th-century British greenhouses, accented with hanging ferns and potted greens. Windows on either side look onto the other sections of the restaurant, while across the ceiling, sky windows pour in natural light over crowded brunches.

Nuestro Secreto, Buenos Aires

It doesn´t require a translator to understand the name of this pocket park restaurant, secreted alongside the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires in the lush La Recoleta district. The standalone glass restaurant centers on the asado, an Argentinian outdoor barbecue—which, in Nuestro Secreto’s case, is obviously indoors. Of course, all of the glass throughout the structure—from the roof to the walls—is designed to open wide to the outdoors, making the asado a bonafide al fresco spectacle.

 Commissary, Los Angeles

Vegetables are the stars at Roy Choi’s Commissary, but the attraction is the space itself. It’s greenhouse-inspired structure is built like it means it—suspended plants thrive throughout the airy space. The all-window restaurant absorves the signature L.A. glow that filters through ceilings and walls as hotel guests lay about the adjacent pool.

 Palmenhaus, Vienna

Originally built in 1901 as a palm house for Vienna’s former imperial palace, Palmenhaus is a glass restaurant which now succeeds inside the historic structure. Not forgetting its namesake, tropical plants still populate the enormous greenhouse, as do Vienna’s tourists who’ve arrived to sample the staple drink—espresso with whipped cream—in a brilliantly lit space.

Terrain Garden Café, Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania

This restaurant is the flagship of terrain, a garden retail concept by none other than the same company behind Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. Among its retail store, bonafide nursery, mushroom house, and more, the concept stays true to the property’s original roots, formerly a nursery for flora that opened over 130 years ago. The Terrain Garden Café opened inside the property’s original greenhouse, serving leafy greens to green thumbs.
