Pendants for Eneko Atxa’s new restaurantThursday 18 August 2016
The project began in March with a huge task to produce 11 ceramic pendants for Eneko Atxa’s new restaurant in One Aldwych hotel, at Covent Garden, wich has a Michelin Star. The lightning project was made with award winning DHA lighting consultancy.
The idea behind the interiors, created by award winning London architects & designers Casson Mann, for this restaurant was a handcrafted space with a relaxed, warm and inviting atmosphere. A lot of the furniture pieces use materials like wood and stone sourced from craftsmen in the Basque region.
Thomas Diem, of Diem Pottery in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, Ireland, handmade each of the 11 clay pendants individually, firstly creating the overall shape and then folding one side of the clay by hand. After drying and firing, they made multiple tests and found a satin polish finish.
The internal fittings are constructed from laser cut frosted acrylic to diffuse the light above. They used one 10° Gu10 Soraa lamp in each fitting, which creates a narrow beam of a warm white. Over the past 4 months, They have been working closely with Casson Mann and DHA Designs to perfect the ceramic fixtures. You can see Shane Holland Design at Tent London, part of London Design Festival, in the Old Truman Brewery, London from the 22nd to the 25th of September.
