Vista Alegre and Jaime Hayón Join Forces to Create Folkifunki

Considered by the publications Time and Wallpaper Magazine as one of the 100 most important creators of our time, the Spanish Jaime Hayón is already a world reference when it comes to design and lifestyle. Having previously collaborated with several brands of international renown, the artist has recently developed a collection of tableware and decorative pieces, in partnership with Vista Alegre, entitled Folkifunki.

Folkifunki presents itself as an irreverent masterpiece, recognized with a German Design Award Nominee 2018 and awarded by the jury of the “Premios Fuera de Serie Diseño e Innovación 2017” in the category Tableware. With this collection, a series of unique pieces of art with character was created. Thanks to the artistic stamp so present and so personal, each element of the collection can mix with other elements or present itself isolated, integrate any table or even be placed on the wall as a decorative object. This train of thought follows the brand’s increasingly more present trend of combining distinct forms, playing and enjoying the objects that surround us, reflecting who we are.

The inspiration of the details that make up each piece comes from Hayón’s vision of what Portugal is. Iconic figures like the rooster, the fish, the animals, as well as the countryside and the details of tiles, all translated from his point of view: full of fantasy, where imagination has no limits. The shapes of the most decorative parts are folkloric, surreal and with a pinch of humour. The art, the craftsmanship in the production of the porcelain and the application of decorations – watercolour, gilded, lines and details – make this a very special set.

Hayón loves the surprise of discovering the details while he eats. To find characters, colours, constellations, where each motif tells a story, creating endless narratives, depending on the made-up compositions. The interaction with each piece is unique, different and exciting.
