Philippe Starck Presents The Design of The 2024 Olympic MedalsWednesday 29 November 2017
We are still seven years away from the Olympic Games in Paris, but the glamorous and imaginative design of the 2024 Olympic Medals was already presented to the public by famous French designer Phillipe Starck.
After creating the design of Olympic Flame for the Winter Olimpic Games of Albertville in 1992, Philippe Starck accepted the request of the Olimpic Commission of the Paris Games to conceive the prestigious awards for the top athletes of the games.
The concept of the design has a focus on the slogan of the Paris event, which is “made for sharing”. With this in mind, Starck created a unique design that allows the main medal to be split into three other smaller medals that can be offered to anyone the winner fells is also deserving of the award.
This amazing piece features a rugged edge and illustrative embellishment on the front, but the main feature it’s clearly the possibility to split the medal into several parts. This is a visionary new style of Olimpic Medals that take the Olimpic Spirit to a new level.
The very own Starck explained what led him to create this singular design that’s also been praised by many French dignitaries, including French President Emmanuel Macron. According to Starck, “Today, more than ever, the truth is that you’re not winning alone, so I wanted this medal to reflect that…If the winner wants to share it, they can share it.“. He added “It’s a really nice way of truly showing team spirit. The winner can literally take his or her medal and separate it into pieces to be given away.”
With this unique proposition of sharing that takes the 2024 Olimpic Games slogan at heart, Starck managed, once again, to surprise everyone with another cleaver, elegant and creative design.
