The Favourite – Fiona Crombie

Truth be told, “The Favourite” is one of the favourites to take this Oscar home! We all know that period dramas are usually powerhouses in Production Design, but when we watch “The Favourite” we can see how this movie is considered a top contender! This top movie fully embodies the eclectic and detailed style that characterizes the top Production Design in top Period Dramas. Fiona Crombie gave Yorgos Lanthimos a sumptuous period playpen for this 18th Century Royal Court that has a simple but stunning overall look!

Black Panther – Hannah Beachler

Another highlight of the Nominees of this category is Hannah Beachler for her amazing work on the blockbuster “Black Panther”. She wowed both Marvel and  Ryan Coogler with her deeply researched and inventive designs for the hidden African kingdom Wakanda! She´s the more modern contender of the five, but believe us when we tell you that her work is revolutionary.

Roma – Eugenio Caballero and Barbara Enriquez

The duo Eugenio Caballero and Barbara Enriquez made it possible for top director Alfonso Cuarón to recreate the 1971 Mexico City of his youth in painstaking detail, and that’s why they share a nomination for their amazing and highly skilled work in the stunning Netflix drama “Roma”. A well-deserved nomination, but will they conquer the award?

First Man – Nathan Crowley and Kathy Lucas

Another dynamic duo is responsible for the Production Design of another top movie of 2018: “First Man”. Nathan Crowley and Kathy Lucas went back to the 60’s to chronicle the visual content of the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong, but amongst the rich elements of Production Design of “First Man” we can highlight the creation of the varied airplanes and spaceships that led the way to the 1969 moon landing!

Mary Poppins Returns – John Myhre and Gordon Sims

The final nominees are  John Myhre and Gordon Sims for their work in the fantasy drama “Mary Poppins Returns” of Walt Disney Pictures! This duo managed to recreate the stunning style of the original “Mary Poppins” and extended it to the Depression Era that takes place 25 years after the events of the first movie! It’s amazing how we can perfectly revisit the Banks Family Fome at 17 Cherry Tree Lane!
