David Rockwell Designs Dazzling New Products for the Rug Company ⇒ From hotels to restaurants as well as product design, David Rockwell is regarded as one of the most skilled and original designers of our time due to the eccentricity and dramatic nature of his designs. In his work, the American designer recurs to the use of energetic design narratives to entertain the people. Quite recently, David Rockwell developed a rug collection for the Rug Company, based on graphic and textural explorations which have both a sophisticated and playful character. Today, CovetED will explore the new handmade additions to this incredibly crafted collection.

Lola Rug

This unique rug was inspired by the glazed ceramic vessles that Rockwell and his daughter, Lola, decorated in the Montreal studio of ceramic artist Pascale Girardin.

Girardin used this same brushstroke approach to create hand-thrown sake vessels for Rockwell Group’s new Nobu Downtown restaurant in Lower Manhattan. The rug composition expresses the same spontaneous movement and flow of brushstrokes that appear on the vessels.

Tidal Moonlight

Woven from bamboo silk, Moonlight Tidal is a new take on the original Tidal rug, with its painterly and rich expression of natural light and its shimmering reflection across the surface of a bay, rendered in cool and warm greys.

Misty Rug
