Located in Washington’s fashionable West End and adjacent to historic Georgetown, the Fairmont Washington, D.C. hotel welcomes guests in capital style. Recently renovated, in a city that’s perpetually changing, it maintained its grandeur and elegance and even added a truly special piece that travelled all across the Atlantic Ocean directly from Portugal: the Heritage Dining Table, by Boca do Lobo.

With a sunlit urban courtyard, a fitness centre and an indoor pool that sooth the spirit, the Fairmont is the perfect hotel for business or leisure travel. Like many other hotels in the North American capital, the luxury hotel was renovated in anticipation of January’s inauguration. The 413 room hotel underwent a huge $27 million renovation which involved remodelling all the guest rooms, the executive forum amphitheatre (which was converted into the new Kennedy Ballroom), the rooms in Fairmont Gold Floor and the expansion of the specialty suites.
A hotel grande entrance sets the tone for the entire building and the renovation of Fairmont’s lobby was, indeed, something truly necessary. And if you enter the space, you’ll be amazed by a special centrepiece. The Fairmont executives and the design team made a bold but wise choice: travel more than 3500 miles to secure a special edition of Boca do Lobo’s Heritage Dining Table. Built by the Portuguese premium design company, the Heritage Dining Table, much like its siblings Heritage Sideboard and Heritage Cabinet, is a highly sophisticated piece inspired by Portuguese history through the use of traditional hand-painted “azulejo” tiles. Its noble design features bold lines, with alternating polished brass, a bevelled mirror, tile strips, and a tempered glass top, which reflects your dining room’s finest elements, yet adding a touch of warmth and finesse.
Boca do Lobo strives to encourage sensational experiences by creating beautiful pieces which are passionately inspired and handcrafted. And if you take a closer look to the Fairmont lobby table, you’ll understand why this customization feature is so important. Since the table is in a hotel very far from its origin, the tile drawings represent the history of the United States of America, instead of the Portuguese one. You can even identify personalities like Abraham Lincoln or George Washington himself handpainted in the beautiful “azulejos”. This capability of customization and adaptation to its final destination is one of the characteristics enjoyed by the recurring Boca do Lobo customers.
Next time you’re in the US capital, and even if you haven’t booked Fairmont Washington, D.C., don’t forget to walk in the luxury hotel lobby, admire the Heritage Dining Table and understand why sometimes it pays off to travel long distances to find the perfect piece for your space.
