A source to human contact: the redesigned Apple’s flagship storeTuesday 18 October 2016
Apple’s flagship store at Regent Street has redesigned its interiors. The main focus for this renewal is to create a more inviting and humanistic sense through the use of natural materials and a wider space, focusing, above all, on people.
The technological savvy store was redesigned by architectural agency Fosters + Partners alongside Apple’s design team, lead by Jonathan Ive, Apple’s chief designer officer. The store also employed a better assisting system to create the most knowledgeable and enthusing experience for its costumers.

A Castagna limestone replaced the glass window staircases, and the overall space features stone walls, bronze and oak, and terrazzo flooring instead of steel and glass. By removing the staircase, the store was modernized with an ampler space where it would facilitate the maneuverability inside the store. As a reported by Apple, the renewal to natural materials happened in order to reflect the architecture and heritage of the building and Regent Street. The exterior of the building is made of Portland stone, Carrara marble, and Venetian Smalti Glass.
According to Rafe Bertram, “The Apple stores are having a continual evolution. There’s an overall philosophical debate about life and tech and how they interplay. Previously, the environment reflected the computer and devices. Now we all view tech as more integrated into our lives so we wanted to create an environment for people to interact with the opportunities that tech can offer, and provide areas for creativity and learning.”
Inspired by the idea of a town square, the restored place ideally resembles the looks of an amphitheatre. The store also as interactive wall displays that showcase all products and services. Apple created a top floor where people could benefit from workshops and seminars. It will also be a space for consultations with costumers and business meetings.
Apple’s flagship store at Regent Street opened on October 15. So here it is your opportunity to explore all the new technologies and devices and be delighted by Apple’s new humane environment.
