A Complete City Guide for the Beloved Milan Design WeekThursday 2 March 2017
Milan, a seething metropolis, is the home of Italy’s stock exchange, an industrial powerhouse and the global capital of fashion and design. The majestic Gothic cathedral, the Duomo, lies at the geographical heart of this former Imperial Roman capital and expresses the love of beauty and power that still symbolises the city today. From 4th to 9th April 2017, Milan will be the stage for the 56th Edition of Milan Design Week, the most important event in the world related to the topic of design. Hosting more than 2,400 exhibitors, a display area of more than 270,000 square meters and thousands of new products premiered at the event, Salone del Mobile (once known as I Saloni) is the benchmark trade fair on an international level, attracting more than 372,000 visitors from as many as 165 countries.
Milan Design Week is defined by Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, announcing the ultimate trends for the forthcoming year and featuring a series of events, exhibitions and presentations. Fuorisalone is the set of events and exhibitions that animate the entire city of Milan, featuring longer opening hours.
Hotel Principe di Savoia, or simply referred to as The Principe, is a five-star hotel in Milan located on Piazza Della Repubblica, that has long become one of Milan’s Landmarks. Founded by the name of “Principe e Savoia” in 1927, a time when Milan had already established its position as the financial centre of the country, it soon became a home for businessmen. With time, celebrities of all kinds chose The Principe for their Italian stays: Edward VIII, Erich Maria Remarque, Aristotle Onassis, Evita Peron, Maria Callas; and in recent years Madonna, David Beckham and George Clooney, among others. In 2003, the hotel became part of the Dorchester Collection, a group of luxury hotels owned by the Brunei Investment Agency. Address: Piazza Della Repubblica, 17, 20124 Milano, Italy
