A Complete City Guide for the Beloved Milan Design WeekThursday 2 March 2017
Milan, a seething metropolis, is the home of Italy’s stock exchange, an industrial powerhouse and the global capital of fashion and design. The majestic Gothic cathedral, the Duomo, lies at the geographical heart of this former Imperial Roman capital and expresses the love of beauty and power that still symbolises the city today. From 4th to 9th April 2017, Milan will be the stage for the 56th Edition of Milan Design Week, the most important event in the world related to the topic of design. Hosting more than 2,400 exhibitors, a display area of more than 270,000 square meters and thousands of new products premiered at the event, Salone del Mobile (once known as I Saloni) is the benchmark trade fair on an international level, attracting more than 372,000 visitors from as many as 165 countries.
Milan Design Week is defined by Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, announcing the ultimate trends for the forthcoming year and featuring a series of events, exhibitions and presentations. Fuorisalone is the set of events and exhibitions that animate the entire city of Milan, featuring longer opening hours.
Set in a landmark 1860s building, Grand Hotel et de Milan, a celebrated high-end hotel is a 4-minute walk from La Scala theatre and 10 minutes from the 18th-century Royal Palace of Milan. Mixing contemporary and period decor, the luxurious rooms and suites offer marble bathrooms. There are a cosy, fine-dining restaurant, an upscale Milanese bistro and a sleek, American-style bar. Other amenities include elegant, art-filled event spaces with period furnishings, plus a fitness room and an opulent lounge with a fireplace.
