The SheltonMindel continues the legacy of the studio founded by Peter L. Shelton & Lee F. Mindel in 1978 as Shelton Mindel & Associates. The architecture firm provides architectural, interiors and product designs for corporate, cultural, academic, retail, recreational, hospitality and residential projects.
The Surf Club Four Seasons Hotel and Residences in Miami Beach was one of the projects responsible for this inclusion in AD Top 100 Interior Designers to follow in 2017 and CovetED Magazine will present you this stunning project.
Since they opened their firm in 1978, they have applied this philosophy to their portfolio of projects, always mindful of the basics. Paraphrasing Louis Kahn, “Materials tell you what they want to be,” said Mindel. “Kahn had an ability to reduce space to its primal elements.”
Shelton Mindel & Associates distinguish themselves by adding something unexpected. “It’s important to make the familiar seem unfamiliar,” said Mindel. Whether they’re designing a loft, residence, ocean liner, product or a Gulf Stream jet, their approach is clear. “We distil ideas to their most pure and meaningful state,” he explained. “Simplicity is the most complicated thing to pursue, but when all elements synthesize, they transcend mere enclosure and become an art form.”
That’s why the interior design is simple and minimalist yet sophisticated and elegant. The white tones and sober lines give a sense of peace and serenity, making it one of the perfect designs for a perfect home.
Shelton Mindel & Associates has received a large number of prizes including three Roscoe awards for product design, three Good Design Awards and two American Architecture Awards from The Chicago Athenaeum. The American Institute of Architecture, San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, National Academy of Design and Houston Museum of Fine Arts have exhibited the firm’s work in both traveling and permanent exhibitions.
