When space is lacking we need to design smarter. Even though we seem to be in the age of open kitchens with sprawling breakfast islands, a one-wall kitchen can be just as beautiful, plus, it saves in space! This way you can add other elements to the room, such as a larger dining table, more chairs, a bigger rug, etc.
Building a banquette is a great option for those who have a smaller area to work with, but would still like to have an eat-in kitchen area. How does it work? A regular table would require you to have at least a couple of feet behind each chair so that you can slide it back easily when getting up. A slide-in banquette, on the other hand, requires no space at all. This way you not only save space but also make the room look less cluttered.
This is another great way to save space while having functionality in mind, and not compromising the kitchen’s aesthetic. One downside to a smaller kitchen is that often we don’t have any storage space and end up leaving everything cluttered. Building cupboards that extend to the ceiling or, simply displaying larger items on the top shelves, can be a great way to revert that use that vertical space to your advantage. If you have many beautiful pieces and are generally tidy, glass cabinets will also make your space seem larger.
The silver lining of having an extra-tiny kitchen? You have less square footage to consider when choosing finishes. Have you been dreaming of a beautiful marble slab for your countertops? Go for it. Want to upgrade or paint your cabinets? It’s a quick and easy job. Want to upgrade your hardware? You don’t have that many pulls or knobs to buy. Treat your tiny kitchen like a jewellery box—and revel in the knowledge that what your space lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for in style.

Stylish kitchen pendant lighting is another option. You can make a series of pendants work in a small kitchen if you go with a delicate look. If you are truly limited on space, a small sized pendant over the sink might give just enough texture and shine in space.
