Patek Philippe Previews the Premieres at Baselworld 2018Monday 19 February 2018
Patek Philippe Previews the Premieres at Baselworld 2018 ⇒ With a little more than a month to the show, Baselworld 2018 offers a global stage for the international watch and jewellery industry. The event, organized each Spring in the city of Basel, Switzerland, brings together professionals since 1917, with the opening of the first Schweizer Mustermesse Basel, of which a section was devoted to watches and jewellery. From 22 to 27 March 2018, about 2,100 exhibitors from over 45 countries, including the leading world brands of the sector, as well as companies specializing in precious gems, will attract over 94,000 visitors. Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, one of the brands attending the show, talks about quality, the premieres at Baselworld 2018 and the new generation of customers.
Founded in 1839, the traditional Patek Philippe watch manufacture has been run by its owners, the Stern Family, since 1932. Thierry Stern has been the president of the family business since 2009. Under his leadership, Patek Philippe combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative materials and new technologies. The results are watches that are considered to be the most sought-after in the world.
Each year, Patek Philippe produces around 40 one-of-a-kind works of rare handcraftsmanship that don’t appear in the stores or the current collections catalogue. The regular collection is also enriched annually with new models decorated by artisans at the top of their game. “The complete Rare Handcrafts collection is presented only during the show. These exclusive and unique timepieces are usually ready just in time for the opening of Baselworld. Thereafter, many of these timepieces leave our workshops for delivery, so the show offers a rare opportunity to see this amazing collection in its entirety”, says Thierry Stern.
Baselworld is “always intense because everything is ready only at the very last minute, but it’s also a time of very positive energy for […] the entire team involved at the show”, says the president of Patek Philippe. “Quality means everything to me. It is one of our most important values, for us as a company. And for our customers, quality is an integral element of a watch”.

The brand will present a rich diversity in men’s watches. Paying tribute to the 20th anniversary of the Aquanaut launched in 1997, the new 5168G model will be available in a “jumbo” format with a white-gold case. To salute the 40th anniversary of its acclaimed self-winding calibre 240 movements, Patek Philippe will also present the new 6006G Calatrava. Destined for new and older generations, the brand will also present the new self-winding perpetual calendar model, the 5320G Grand Complications (the favourite model of Thierry Stern), a watch that demonstrates the know-how of the company ant that combines a vintage style with the highest level of technology.
For the ladies, Patek Philippe also prepared some models to present at Baselworld, like the 4947G Complications, with new colour finishes and a silk effect. After being presented for the first time in 2011, the 7130 World Time watch returns with a grey-blue dial. Last, the 4899/900G Calatrava will amaze the Baselworld visitors with a full complement of staggered-set diamonds and pink sapphires on the case and buckle.
For the future, Thierry Stern wants to be in contact with the brand’s clients. “Let’s say, in 20 years, to talk watches with the new generations of clients, to see how they think and what they like and to become inspired for future creations. This is my passion and I always look forward to the future!”.
