The main attraction of this event is currently on its 58th edition and it’s still a strong event when it comes to mixing business with culture and shaping design trends and tendencies. The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is divided into three main categories: Classic: Tradition in the Future (valuing tradition, craftsmanship, and skill in the making of traditional furniture), Design (where the new products that are functional and innovative make the scene) and the xLux section, entirely dedicated to timeless and refined luxury products. This event is also remarkable for its capacity to connect quality and technology.
This event is currently in its 30th edition, presenting a wide variety of products, mainly furniture, decorative objects, textiles, and others. This is where you can find the main trends, styles, and innovative design products. There are over 200 exhibitors to check out during this time.
This event is dedicated entirely to the exhibition of lighting brands since 2011. Here you can see the global benchmark lighting exhibition with several products in this sector, such as outdoor, indoor and industrial lighting, as well as proper lighting solutions for several types of occasions or establishments. Euroluce is also an important event when it comes to promoting the matters of eco-sustainability and energy saving in lighting and decoration.
This exhibition area is relatively recent, yet it was created as a way of discussing the design and technology in workspace planning, seen as many designer brands are making an approach into workspaces. In this area, you can find many furniture products designed for several professional environments such as reception areas and office spaces. The exhibition aims to make people see the possibilities in the creation of the workspace of the future.
This part of the event focuses especially on the work of young designers, specifically those under 35 years old. It can be described as a potential meeting place between young talents in design and businessmen. Here is an opportunity for many young designers to present their prototypes and make them into a reality by contacting several enterprises.
Fuorisalone is a set of events that are distributed throughout Milan at the same time as Salone Internazionale del Mobile. These two events, you could say, are the main definers of Milan Design Week. However, in the case of the Fuoriosalone, this is not a fair event nor is it controlled by any institution, but it’s an initiative that expands to many other areas such as art, fashion, food, technology and telecommunications. You can find many of the exhibitors of Fuoriosalone at many Milanese districts, mainly in Brera, Tortona and Ventura.
The XXII Triennale di Milano starts on the 1st of March and ends at the 12th of June, however, it’s also a potential event to be seen during Milan Design Week. This year’s theme is “Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival” and the main goal is to, in their words “promote the importance of creative practices in surveying our species’ bonds with the complex systems in the world” and discuss and analyze potential solutions in that regard. The event is currently curated by Paola Antonelli (Senior Curator of Architecture and Design and also the Director of R&D at The Museum of Modern Art, New York).
